With extensive experience in working with trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and sleep-related issues, Mackenzie brings both expertise and empathy to her practice. Before establishing her private practice, she spent nearly four years providing counseling to veterans at the Amarillo VA, which attuned her understanding to the unique needs of servicemembers, veterans, and military families.
The name Solara was inspired by the symbolism of healing light, as well as the inherent duality of darkness. Just as the sun rises and sets each day, so too do our experiences ebb and flow. The sun reminds us that it is okay to both experience and explore both the light and darkness that comes with life. In the midst of the night, we know the sun will rise again.

Evidence-Based Treatments

Please note that your therapy does not have to be limited to the treatments below. Therapy can be flexible and tailored to your needs.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
If you struggle with depression and anxiety, ACT may be right for you. ACT will help you to enhance the skill of acceptance, manage the waves of emotions through mindfulness, and re-engage in what is most important to you. Through ACT, you can find more peace and clarity toward a purposeful life.

Internal Family Systems
Do you feel like you have opposing parts within yourself that hold you back from what you want? Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps you to bring total healing to parts of yourself that are holding you back or making life more difficult.

Cognitive Processing Therapy
Are you being pulled down by the weight of trauma? The word "trauma" refers to life-altering experiences that significantly impacts a person's wellbeing-- This could be death of a loved one, a severe illness or accident, sexual trauma, being victim of physical violence, a natural disaster, and more. Cognitive processing therapy can help to reduce the impact trauma continues to have on your life so that you can move forward without being weighed down. This treatment is also highly effective for post-traumatic stress disorder.

CBT- Insomnia
Not getting quality sleep can have a significant negative effect on the things most important to you -- your health, emotional wellness, ability to perform, effective stress management, relationships, etc. Studies show that sleep deprivation alone can lead to depression and anxiety. CBT-insomnia is considered the gold-standard treatment for helping individuals to recover their sleep - no matter how severe their sleep issues are. This short-term treatment is highly effective and worthwhile if sleep is a recurring issue.
